Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington before joining the faculty at the University of Guam, where he specialized in solo and ensemble vocal music. Now a Professor Emeritus, he remains active with local community music and theater organizations, conducts choir clinics at local schools, and composes for Santa Barbara Music Publishing. Recently, he served as an adjudicator at international choir festivals in Kobe, Japan, and Phu Quoc, Vietnam. This production marks Dr. Johnson’s second collaboration with World Theater Productions and the Guam Philharmonic Foundation, following his work on the 2025 production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
With experience directing the orchestra for over 15 productions on Guam, Dr. Johnson finds this project particularly nostalgic. When the animated film debuted in 2013, he staged a popular costumed version at UOG for his then three-year-old daughter, Stella. Now 16, Stella joins him as part of this official Broadway production.
Dr. Johnson is excited to bring the Broadway version’s 12 new songs, rich orchestration, and enhanced character development to the stage. He continues to be inspired by the immense talent on Guam and enjoys collaborating with the dedicated teams at GTB, WTP, and GPF—many of whom are his former students.

Yoo Kyung “Yooky” Shin discovered her passion for music at an early age, becoming the youngest singer in her church choir at just ten years old. Although she began her musical journey through piano lessons, she soon found her true calling in choral singing. Her love for choral music was nurtured as a member of the John F. Kennedy High School Honor Choir, Silhouettes, where she sang for four years, served as soprano section leader for two years, and received the National Choral Award as a senior under the direction of Michael M. Song.
Shin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Guam, majoring in Secondary Education with a minor in Fine Arts emphasizing Music. During her university years, she was an active member of the University Singers and performed with the female quartet Les Quatre Femmes under the direction of Dr. Randall Johnson. She later earned a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University in 2019.
A dedicated music educator and conductor, Shin directed her church choir for sixteen years beginning at the age of seventeen and has led numerous concerts and musical productions throughout her career. She has also had the unique opportunity to participate in recording projects with all three of her major musical ensembles: Silhouettes, Les Quatre Femmes, and her church choir.
Since 2007, Shin has taught music at Simon A. Sanchez High School, where she has inspired generations of students through performance, creativity, and community. Since 2013, she has served as director of Select Chorus and La Voce – The Voice of SSHS, leading students in concerts, musicals, and service through music. In 2025, she was honored as Guam Teacher of the Year through the Council of Chief State School Officers National Teacher of the Year Program.
Shin is passionate about building connections through music and hopes to expand collaborative opportunities among schools across Guam, bringing young people together through shared musical experiences and the transformative power of the arts.
